Confession: D & I eat a lot of smoothie bowls. D eats them every single morning for breakfast and sometimes for a snack and I eat them every morning I don’t have to rush to work after a morning workout. Why do we love them? They are… Packed with greens! Packed with healthy fats! Protein-rich! Easy to make and easy clean-up! It’s like a milkshake for breakfast with crunchies! Who doesn’t love crunchies?!Read More →

The name of this is a bit of a misnomer if you’re thinking in the traditional sense. I could have named this flu-blaster, cold remedy, green goddess, glow like a god-damn firefly juice, but my cheeky side just wouldn’t let me. This juice will leave your taste buds and your body satisfied. It’s super fast to whip up, packs a mean punch of healthy vitamins & minerals, and is loaded with flavor. And no messy regular juicer clean up! Wham Bam Thank You Ma’am. You are welcome. Read More →

Sooo I might have been on a bit of a lemon kick. My recently posted gateway-to-chia lemon raspberry parfait is now one of my favorite summertime refreshing snacks.  Lemon is so freaking versatile. Put it in your water for some added flavor. Add it to desserts or savory dishes. Add it to homemade cleaning products.  Annnnnnnd as I was experimenting, it even goes with lavender. Like, really goes. Like honey in my tea. Or the jam on my toast. The peanut butter to my chocolate. Like that kinda goes.Read More →

So let me start off by saying that I was not a believer when I first heard of chia pudding. I never ate a ton of pudding as a kid, unless it was in the form of a popsicle. But this refreshing lemon and berry chia pudding parfait with the crunch of macadamia has won me over.Read More →

Tropical fruits are consuming me! I cannot stop eating them. Has that been happening to you guys lately with the sun heating us up and keeping us up later? For me the summer time is all about sweet and tangy refreshing fruit cocktails, salsas, and salads. And I loooove juxtaposing flavors so the sweetness of the pineapple with the spice of the jalapeño and cooling cilantro are totes floatin’ my boat right now. Read More →

A little while ago I read a former teammate and Facebook friend’s post that read something like “Lunch isn’t as exciting when you have a salad.” Cue the jaw drop, the eye bug and the gasp. SAY WHAT?!?! That is the absolute opposite of how I feel. And I eat a lot of salad. Every. Single. Day.  Now I am not talkin’ bout no iceberg lettuce with mushy tomatoes and celery with a bland (and probably overly sugary store-bought dressing). I am talking about flavor and texture packet salad that you get excited to eat when you open up your to-go container at lunch. Make all theRead More →

WAIT! Don’t put away your beets and red fruits just because Valentine’s Day is over. It’s National Women’s History Month and I think women could use a little celebrating, don’t you? We have made some pretty awesome strides in the U.S. over the years. We are inventers, teachers, mothers, dancers, doctors, activists, friends, politicians, lovers, daughters and sisters and wives. I know that you’re pretty bad ass, too. I bet you recently you just stood up for yourself at work, or to a friend who wasn’t making you feel so hot, or mastered your first bit of salsa choreography, whipped up a bad-ass healthy and delicious mealRead More →

As we all know, elves love to stick to the 4 main food groups; candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup. Unfortunately, (or maybe fortunately?), those 4 main food groups stick to my gut, and make my gut stick out. Not to mention I don’t like candy canes, gasp! or candy corn, gasp gasp!  So as much as Elf and I have in common (Smiling is my favorite too and anyone who knows me knows that I can hold my own in a burp-a-thon), I am gonna have to offer an alternative to his food groups. That’s where these healthy clean chocolate peppermint patties comeRead More →

I absolutely love celebrating birthdays. I have a friend who celebrates her half birthday pretty hard. I think I might have to adopt that tradition myself. I have always loved spending a day by myself. Heading to the beach with a good book, getting a massage, having an ice cream cone and then heading out with my friends for an all-night dancing extravaganza. This year, however, was turning out to be a little different.Read More →

When I was a kid my mom used to take me to the local library to hang out and get books. I loved the smell when we walked in and remember grabbing one of my favorite books and sitting in the old wooden chairs to read. I have no idea what the book was called, but it was about a girl who floated through a candy and chocolate world in her dreams. I read that book countless times. I guess I have always been a sweets lover. Since I have begun to cut out sugar from my diet I have noticed that I have a lower toleranceRead More →

Why don’t we ever refer to anything that combines chocolate and hazelnut as Ferrer Rocher? I think they should also get some cred for the amazing combination of chocolate and hazelnuts. Maybe because you can’t spread it on anything or eat it right out of the jar? Or maybe because Nutella has a consistency like nut butters, so we like to think that it is healthy and relegate the gooey little chocolate balls into the dessert category. Poor guys. Not that I recommend eating this on a regular basis or anything, but when you have a craving that needs to be satisfied, THIS ice creamRead More →

Today was the day to lose my training wheels. Or better yet, water wings. I woke up at 5:15 on my last day of summer to go to my first open water swim practice. My triathlon coming up in less than a month and I have gotten some looks when I say that I haven’t done much open water training. Or any. I showed up on time (yay!), and was asked if I was going to get a swim wetsuit. A what? Wasn’t my surfing wetsuit good enough? I pretended like I was on the hunt for a good bargain swim wetsuit and talked toRead More →

Stone fruit season is coming to a sad, sad close. Especially for someone who lives with a bottomless nectarine pit. (pun intended!) I just bought 15 nectarines! Am I crazy? Apparently not because we have been flying through them. We grilled them for some friends the other night and they were OUTSTANDING. If you have never grilled a peach or nectarine before, this is the summer to do it! But if you don’t have access to a grill or want something healthy and filling for a snack, try the following treat.   Ingredients 2 ripe nectarines, pitted & halved 1/4 unsweetened coconut flakes 1/2 c.Read More →

These lil’ fellas are great as a snack in themselves or in ice cream such as my Hunky Munky flavor, which is vegan & sugar-free. Using cacao butter as the base of your chocolate will allow your chocolate to solidify at room temperature, so you do not have to store them in the refrigerator. They are better for traveling and make good gifts since.  If you choose to use the raw chocolate recipe, they will have to be kept in the freezer or fridge. #1: Ingredients 1 1/2 c. assorted raw nuts, such as pecans, almonds & walnuts 4 Tbsp. cacao butter 1/4 c. cacao powderRead More →
