So let’s just chat about the power of not baking anything and making a super quick, but seemingly fancy snack, dessert, or maybe even appetizer. And then let’s chat about how it’s gluten-free, can be vegan, poppin’ with protein, etc. etc. And eye catching. It’s the holy trinity of non-fancy fancy foods. Nailed it!Read More →

Ummmmm, how did it become November already? And it’s not even the first of November…November 6th? Whhaaaaat? Talking about Thanksgiving plans and Christmas travels already has got me like whoa. But also super stoked for the mountains to open and the snow to start dumping. Let’s just talk about cute mountain cabins with fires, sweaters, hot tubs, and the best part of being on the mountain all day, the aprés-ski. Why yes I will sit red-cheeked with a beer in my bikini in the hot tub. Twist my arm why don’t ya?Read More →

Sunchoke apple salad

The sunchoke aka Jerusalem artichoke has been something that I’ve been eyeing for years at farmers’ markets. First in the Philly Reading Terminal and again in the markets out in LA. I’ve only had it once, while visiting family in northern Sweden. It was prepared in a soup on a cold and rainy day. And it was delicious. But I had always been a bit intimated to cook it myself. Maybe it was the name or the fact that it looked like ginger or sometimes one of those Mandrakes from Harry Potter. Artichokes tend to be a bit intimidating themselves. But a sunchoke (a termRead More →

I used to joke that fall was Mother Nature’s trickery to get us to accept the darkness of winter. All the goodness of fall was to ease us in to cold days, shoveling snow, and hibernating most of the winter months. But this time of the year does always have me craving the outdoors even more. Maybe it’s just me trying to squeeze in every last drop of daylight, walking barefoot, and fresh summer fruit. But when the air turns crisp I start to quickly accept the change in weather. (Yes, it does get cooler in So Cal, though fall is definitely not the sameRead More →

You know how you are so 100% sure of an idea or have had something on the forefront of your mind and at your most sleepy moment rays come down from the sky and you have full clarity? And then all of a sudden you go about your day and your confidence in your idea begins to waiver and get muddled with all the day to day, overthinking, analyzing, and possibly even forgotten. Why do we do this to ourselves? Allow insecurity and other’s opinions begin to blow our stable umbrella parked in the sand begin to blow inside out and fly away? Of course,Read More →

Saturday nights spent out dancing until 6 or 7 in the morning meant Sundays were for sleeping, park & beach going, and a lot of paella. Living in Spain, and a lot of other places around the world, I learned that Sundays were for rest and spending time with friends & family. Everything, yup everything, was closed. There was no rushing to get the grocery shopping done for the week or rushed plans to do XYZ. I often found myself strolling around the streets of Madrid meandering through parks, where there always seemed to be some sort of festival, exploring different parks, hitting up theRead More →

When I first think about how this blog started 3 years ago, I realize how much I’ve learned and how much the blog has changed. I had recently moved from Philly to Santa Monica and was loving how inspired the warm weather and abundant farmers’ markets were making me to cook and eat whole & seasonal foods. After posting a few pictures of my meals & snacks on social media I received some encouragement from friends and family to start a food blog so I decided to give it a go. I dove in head first creating recipes and testing out food photography (egads thoseRead More →

I did a thing! A super amazing delicious thing! I have been wanting to make this recipe for at least 2 years. TWO! I tried a few times and each time the cookie was too healthy tasting or crumbled apart too much. I was starting to give up when I decided to revamp an oldie but goodie, and it worked!  And good thing because I had been in bit of a kitchen rut and now I feel like I am on fiiiiireeee. Read More →

I’ve been keeping a secret from Mr. CN. I have been sneaking zucchini and beans into his smoothies for the last few weeks. Not that I was trying to trick him, but I wanted to honestly know if he could tell what was in his smoothie. He usually trusts me, so as long as it tasted good he didn’t ask too many questions. I can usually tell by the scraping of the spoon at the bottom of the bowl if it was good or not. And I’ve been hearing a lot scraping lately.Read More →

I am not one of those people who does well sitting still. Sure I have my days where I love to lie on the couch and binge OITNB, but overall I am pretty active, though I have been (re)learning the art of sleeping in since we started our travels late August. But I still get the urge to move, explore and experience new things. You see, I have always loved to travel and dreamed of it. Did you ever play that game where you would spin the globe, close your eyes and point to spot and that’s where you would end up living when youRead More →

I’m sitting on my porch in Koh Tao this morning, with ants crawling all over my screen, sipping on what I thought was a coffee, but rather ended up being a sugar bomb with a trace of coffee, scratching my 755 mosquito bites, and already starting to sweat at 730am. I was so angry last night as we were hiking up the Rockies of Thailand…okay maybe a bit of a hyperbole, but it was steep! Yet I cannot remember a morning that I woke up happier, of course I have a view of a still water through tropical plants and bougainvilleas with a great porchRead More →

When Mr. Craving Nature and I decided to go on a several month travel honeymoon, I knew that we would be giving up a lot of comforts. A bed (with a mattress), our car, and most of all, our kitchen. Luckily we eased me into it by heading to a major city first. For most people traveling may not be an issue when it comes to food. People take the opportunity to head out to eat and take a break from their usual regimen, usually treating themselves to some extra indulgences and libations. Hello, sangria and churros! Though the problem is when you are travelingRead More →

When I was younger I never ever dreamt about my wedding. To give you some background I never carried a blanky, but rather a pair of rubber pliers and a skeleton key. Yup, I was into my own thing and was always dreaming of secret, magical worlds to which I could travel and unlock my fantastical mind. I also use to dig mazes in a sandbox and take the mice that my cat caught and tried to make them run through it. I guess you could say I was not into the average girlie things. Maybe that was because my mom gave me a boy haircut andRead More →

I have to admit, I am a spiralizer hater. Maybe it’s because it always leaves a nub or the fact that you have to twist so many damn times to yield little results. I’ve tried different brands and have gotten frustrated when I have tried to spiralize anything except zucchini, and even then I just started chopping because the noodles were not very noodle-y.  And then I went to dinner at a friend’s house and she made me zucchini pasta or “zoodles.” And it was goooooood. So I became determined to make them at home. Just without a spiralizer. Read More →

It’s peanut butter jelly ice cream sandwich time! Summer is on like Donkey Kong. Pools are open, school is out, and it’s starting to get hot. These sandwich throwback ice cream sammies couldn’t be any easier. With just 5 ingredients (yes, I said 5) and less than 30 minutes you can be lying in your lawn chair with one of these treats in your hand and your feet in the kiddie pool. Read More →

When I think of marriage I often think of food 😛 And when we think of peanut butter food marriages we often think of chocolate, banana, and jelly. Peanut butter and turmeric hardly comes to mind. Then the other day I was making a stir-fry and threw in some peanut butter with the turmeric and really loved the bold, spice of the turmeric combined with the smooth and somewhat sweet flavor of the peanut butter. The gears began to turn. I started adding turmeric to my smoothies, especially when adding peanut butter. I loved the flavor combo. So now that we’re heading into summer monthsRead More →

I have this great memory from a Sunday in summer after a night out with my girls. We woke up in the morning and wanted to go for an exercise walk through town. We stumbled upon a farmers market at the high point of peach season. As we walked into the square the sweet aroma of my favorite stone fruit met my nose and I knew that we needed to try one. I had about $3 in cash and had just enough to buy us each a peach. We sat outside eating and laughing at the ridiculous image of 3 women having peach juice running down ourRead More →
